Reading is the key to learning across all subjects. On International Literacy Day, we’re celebrating the ways our teachers build literacy skills into every classroom experience! 🎉📖

Last Friday, Mrs. Miller brought our brand-new Chompsaw Workshop to Mrs. Braun's 2nd graders. Chompsaw is a kid-safe power tool designed for cutting cardboard and other maker materials, and our 2nd graders absolutely loved getting the chance to test it out. 📦

We welcomed our youngest Bulldogs to our preschool program this week! We look forward to a year of exploring, discovering, creating, and growing. 😊 #VanMeter

As football season kicks off, some 2nd graders came to school ready to cheer for their favorite college team in anticipation of the Iowa vs. ISU game this weekend! We're a grade divided! 🏈 #VanMeter

Dallas Chief Eagle and his daughter, Jasmine, visited our 4th grade students in Haverstick, Teigland, Byrnes, and Stephens's classes to share their Native American culture. Both are World Champion Hoop Dancers who brought powerful storytelling, movement, and meaning to our students. Many chose to participate in this beautiful Lakota tradition.

Our 3rd grade students are excited for the CyHawk Game tomorrow and showed their spirit by dressing in team colors at school today! Their prediction is a win for the Iowa Hawkeyes. A total of 55 students predicted a Hawkeye victory, while 34 students are cheering for the Cyclones! ✨ #VanMeter

Mrs. Miller joined Mrs. Garrison’s 3rd grade class to explore an interactive writing program. Students had a great time working together, building stronger sentences, and thinking critically about their writing! ✏️📚 #VanMeter

Attention Van Meter football fans: Due to limited parking and ongoing construction at the stadium, some changes are in place for this season’s home football games. 🏈

Stadium Entry:
➡️ Fans may enter at the south stairs or west walkway.

Parking:
➡️ General parking is available in the south lot or at the east athletic complex (use the tunnel to access the other side).
➡️ Bus lane parking is reserved for those with health needs, seniors, and handicapped access (as in previous years).

Traffic Flow:
➡️ Vehicles can enter through either entrance, but the lane directly south of the stadium scoreboard will be blocked.
➡️ No traffic cut-throughs—use designated flow only.

For everyone’s safety, please stay out of the construction zone and follow all signage for a safe game day experience!

Our #VanMeter Student Conservation Club (VMSCC) had their senior trip to South Dakota last weekend!

The senior members hiked in two National Parks, two state parks, one shared National Forest and Wilderness Area, and climbed to the top of Black Elk Peak.

Please join us in congratulating our six Math Star Nominees for their outstanding achievement on the ISASP! These now 4th grade students scored in the top 2% in Math on last year’s assessment.
