Van Meter's first high school debate team went 5-2 in its first debate tournament November 30.
The team of Luke C and Molly C tied for first with most wins going 3-0 over teams from Spencer, Griswold and Bishop Heelan High Schools. The team of Tori C and Alyssa S tied for second with a 2-1 record in the tournament. Debate team members are Luke C, Molly C, Tori C, Alyssa S, Bethany O, Kaeden S, Emma B and Maxwell S.
Coaches are Tom Walton and Vicki Lyons. Van Meter is part of the Western Iowa League of Debate ("WILD"), which includes CAM, Atlantic, Carroll Kuemper, East Mills, Fremont Mills, GMG, Griswold, Okoboji, Sidney, Stanton, Shenandoah, Treynor, and Winterset.
