VM Fallback 1

Welcome to Van Meter Elementary! My name is Cody Tibbetts and this is my seventh year serving as the elementary principal. I worked as an elementary teacher for seven years with stops at Clear Creek-Amana and Storm Lake. I have coached football, basketball, and baseball at the high school level and spent two seasons as the assistant softball coach at Buena Vista University, before accepting my first administrative position. My first administrative position was at Albert City-Truesdale in Albert City, IA where I served as the PK-6 principal for two years. My wife, Abby, and our four kids Reagan, Collins, Griffin, and Porter live in Van Meter. We enjoy attending school events and being outdoors!

I am energized about our school, our vision and most of all the stakeholders that make up our district. The focus of our system is around creating good people! Individuals that communicate, collaborate, create and innovate, solve problems, think globally, and persevere.

Creating a firm foundation, modeling expectations and allowing for student voice/choice during the school day provides individuals multiple avenues to excel in the classroom. The more personalized a student's learning becomes the more invested they are in their work.

Van Meter uses a variety of resources that accommodate all learners so that students can demonstrate their learning in distinct ways. If there is someone new and different available that may support our students, we will give it a try! The elementary will work as “one”, with all stakeholders, so that our students are furnished with the best education that they can receive.

Thank you for your support, your involvement in our school and helping make Van Meter a safe learning environment. If you have specific questions or concerns about Van Meter Elementary, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to meeting you and building a strong and trusting relationship. On behalf of the Van Meter Elementary staff, thank you for your support and we look forward to having your child(ren) in our district!

Go Bulldogs!

Sincerely,

Cody Tibbetts
