I’m Deron Durflinger, Superintendent of Van Meter Community School District. We're proud to be a small, progressive district located just west of the Des Moines metro. With around 1,200 students all housed in a single PK–12 building, we create a personalized learning environment where students can grow at their own pace and explore their passions.

Van Meter students consistently perform well academically and excel in a wide range of activities—from award-winning music and drama programs to championship-level athletics. Our partnerships with colleges, academies, and career programs give students access to real-world experiences in areas like technology, healthcare, business, culinary arts, and engineering.

We’re nationally recognized for our innovative teaching, 1:1 technology use, and commitment to global learning, including daily Spanish instruction. Our standards-based grading and whole-child approach help ensure every student is prepared for success—today and tomorrow.
