Dan Koster and his wife Kris have lived in the Van Meter School District since the fall of 2000.  They have three boys, Bryon (16), Owen (12) and Ben (3) and live in Crestview Estates just south of town.

Dan was born and raised in Elkader, Iowa where he graduated from Central Community High School in1986.  Elkader is in the heart of Clayton County in Northeast Iowa right on the border of Wisconsin.  After High School, Dan attended Iowa State University where he received an undergraduate degree in Business and a Graduate Degree in Economics.  He truly enjoyed his time at Iowa State and feels that we, as Iowans, are very fortunate to have three high quality public universities and many great private colleges for our young people to choose from.  It was during his last semester of graduate school that he met Kris and they married on July 2, 1994.  After living in West Des Moines, Kris and Dan decided to move to Van Meter, attracted by its picturesque rolling hills, friendly residents and strong school district and have been very happy ever since.  They truly feel blessed to have met and built friendships with so many great people.

Professionally, Dan has spent the past 20 years doing market research and financial/economic analysis for Iowa State University Extension, Wells Fargo, Pioneer Hi-Bred and now with FBL Financial Group (better know as Farm Bureau Financial Services).  He is proud to work for an organization with a grass roots tie to Iowa and its rural and agricultural foundation (You can view his full professional profile at

Kris and Dan are proud of their sons and take an active interest in their education and the extracurricular activities offered in this community.  Dan currently serves on the South Dallas Little League and Van Meter Little League Boards of Directors and has served on both the Central Iowa Youth Football and Van Meter Youth Football boards.  He is also active in coaching and assisting with youth sports.  Kris has been active with the Van Meter Elementary Parents Committee and both have been strong supporters of the Van Meter Education Foundation and the Performing Arts and Athletic Booster Clubs.

It is Dan’s sincere hope to have the opportunity to serve the community as a member of the Van Meter School Board.  He believes his background, education and experience make me an ideal candidate
